The Good News editorial staff obviously plays no role in determining the foreign policy of the world's nations. We have no crystal ball to foresee day-to-day or month-to-month occurrences. What we do bring to our readers is basic prophetic insight, based on the Bible, making the analysis of significant global events much easier. After all, Jesus Christ did tell us to be acutely alert to what is happening in the world (see Mark 13:33-37; Luke 21:34-36).

The persecution of Christians in the developing world has increased rapidly during the last decade. Newsweek reported that “terrorist attacks on Christians in Africa, the Middle East and Asia increased 309% from 2003 to 2010”—a mere seven years (Feb. 16, 2012). But one wouldn’t normally expect religious mistreatment in the English-speaking, democratic Western world. Nonetheless, raw persecution is now rearing its ugly head in Britain.

Acres of newsprint have been spread across the world explaining and expounding various aspects of the eurozone crisis. The focus of these magazine and newspaper articles has generally centered on the massive debt problems now dogging Italy, Greece and Spain—and the resultant economic dangers to Europe, the United States and the world at large.

Why do some people continually fall for repeated postponement dates predicting the "end of the world?" According to Harold Camping in his show "Open Forum," a brand new judgment day threatens us all in the autumn. Why do some continue to believe his prophecies, seemingly ignoring and explaining away past failures?

While watching the media reaction to Bin Laden’s demise, first on CNN and then on the BBC, one could not help notice subtle differences in tone in the comments about Pakistan. The Atlanta-based news network tended to give the benefit to the doubt while Katty Kay of the BBC reflected the “How Could Our Allies Have Not Known?” approach.
