When we began work on the current issue of The Good News , the cover story wasn't immediately settled. It was either going to be the horror of abortion, as this year marks the 40th anniversary of the infamous Roe v. Wade U.S. Supreme Court decision that sanctioned the murder of unborn children, or it was going to be the broader subject of the great value of human life, considering the supreme purpose for which human beings exist.

During the past month, a plague of locusts swept across Egypt and then into neighboring Israel. While not so uncommon, a number of news reports were quick to point out the significant timing of the occurrence—coming as it did just before the Passover and the Days of Unleavened Bread, which will be observed next week. At this time we reflect on God's deliverance of the ancient Israelites from slavery in Egypt. To free His people, God sent devastating plagues on Egypt, including locusts. In light of other recent events, there is much more to reflect on at this time as well.

Well, it's happened again. The Middle East has exploded as anti-American anger sweeps the Muslim world. At this 11th anniversary of 9/11, an obscure movie produced in the United States portraying the prophet Muhammad in a negative light has been used ostensibly to inflame a wave of furious protests in many Muslim nations. Some in the Middle East have turned into violent assaults against U.S. embassies—with the attack in Libya killing four Americans, including the U.S. ambassador.
