Victor Kubik

Victor Kubik was named president of the United Church of God, an International Association, by the Church's 12-man Council of Elders in May 2013. He succeeded the late Dennis Luker, a long-time minister and administrator who served as president from 2010 until his death in March 2013.

Mr. Kubik's administration emphasizes a Christ-centered leadership model. His goals as president include following Christ's lead in more fully developing spiritual gifts within the Church's ministry and membership. Those gifts include practicing and demonstrating godly love. A former chair of the Council's media committee, Mr. Kubik is strongly committed to more effectively preaching the gospel, particularly in international areas. An outcome of this focus includes defending and preserving the doctrines of the Church and promoting peace and unity to powerfully fulfill the mission and vision of the United Church of God.

Eighteen years ago, things were looking very bad for what is today the richest and most valuable company in the world. In 1997, Apple was on corporate life support. The media was openly talking about the end of a once-promising enterprise, together with its ground-breaking Mac computer.

Can we trust, even to the point of changing our very lives, a collection of ancient manuscripts that we know today as the Bible? Over the past two weeks I have been presenting solid evidence that we can indeed confidently rely on these very words of God.

Last week I discussed what has rightly been described as an “irresponsible” cover article in Newsweek that was published at the end of December. This highly biased travesty of journalism titled “The Bible: So Misunderstood It’s a Sin” was littered with error, assumptive illogical statements, and other outright nonsense. But because it is cleverly written and widely distributed, it needs to be brought to task.

Here’s a fact we need to consider. Many in our time foolishly reject the most ancient and voluminously preserved manuscripts in human history: the Bible. Given this tragic frame of mind, it should not be surprising that the very Word of God should come under withering attack from time to time. The Bible writers themselves warn of humanity’s foolhardiness when it comes to God’s revealed knowledge. But when these attacks happen, they still can be temporarily jarring in their magnitude.

Is tactical nuclear war on our forefront? I recently read a Forbes article detailing four ways that Russia could use its new tactical nuclear strike capacity in the present Ukrainian confrontation. Even though I have thoroughly read, understand and believe God's biblical promises of the coming Kingdom of God for all of humanity, I found the Forbes article disheartening.

Has someone ever personally shared a hard or important moment of their life with you? How did you respond? In this third in a series about experiences in prayer I'd like to talk about effectively delivering powerful prayers on behalf of others.

Violence, looting and burning erupted last night after a prosecutor announced that police officer Darren Wilson would not be indicted in the August 9th death of Michael Brown. Since that date tension has been high and sustained in what appeared to be a delayed ruling. Fear was that whether Wilson was indicted or not, violence would erupt. Supporters of both sides were ready to take action after the verdict would be announced.

If you're like me, it's altogether too easy to allow distractions. If I'm not focused, my mind can wander. How do we avoid that and offer up powerful prayers that "avail much"? (James:5:16).

Ever talk with God? Did He answer? The Bible references prayer more than 600 times, confirming its critical importance. Simply put, prayer represents the very spiritual lifeblood of the relationship we have with God. It's the main way we communicate with both our all-powerful Father in heaven and with Jesus Christ, our Advocate. Through many examples, the Bible shows how prayer is the miraculous medium directly connecting physical man to God, who is Spirit (John:4:24). Through prayer we can express our gratitude, praise, thoughts and needs to God.

"It's not my fault!"

How often have we heard—or even said ourselves—those exact words when something we're involved in goes wrong? It's often an initial reaction. Nobody likes to be wrong or liable, and we often can quickly grope for ways to explain away or justify failure or setback by placing blame on everyone else but ourselves.

As a Christian, one who is dedicated to following Jesus Christ, I want to observe, do and emulate the things He did. Not the least of these things are the days that Jesus observed. For starters, every week Jesus kept the Sabbath day, which no one denies falls on Saturday, the seventh day of the week. But Christ also kept the Feasts of the Lord that are mentioned throughout the Bible. To begin with, they're all listed in the 23rd chapter of Leviticus. The names of these Feasts of the Lord are all listed, along with the date of their observance.

Various polls mention these questions up as those that people bring up most and would like an answer to: Why were you born and what is the purpose of life?, Is there a God? and What happens after death?

As I was growing up, wondering about life after death was a part of me. Perhaps you've had a similar experience. As I sat in a local church I attended back then with my parents in Minnesota, I heard vague notions about how one day my "consciousness" would somehow be transported to some kind of "heaven." It was up there somewhere where God lived. I apparently was going to live there forever if I was fortunate.

"Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching" (2 Timothy:4:2). These are strong words.

I had a great story that I was just about tell you that someone else told me. But I won't. Why not? The story sounded good. I was moved by it. It had a great point. But after trying to verify the facts of a public event, I found that the real story was a lot different than what others said about the same event. It didn't check out. The person may have been just passing on a narrative that someone else told him. However, I'm not going to repeat something that I'm not sure is accurate.

One question consistently shows up as one of the most-asked of all time. Most certainly you've asked yourself this question at one time or another. Some say it is "unanswerable." Simply put, the question reads like this:  "Why was I born?"   At some point in our lives, we ask: "Is there any reason for my existence?"

When I was a teenager I once asked my minister: "Why is it so easy to think and do wrong, and why is it so hard to think good thoughts and do good deeds?"

It has been rightly said that to be successful, one must gain access to critical information, then assemble a defined body of knowledge from that information, and finally, transform that knowledge into understanding . Applying understanding that is grounded in truth leads to a successful and happy life.

How closely is God watching over you? Does your loyalty towards Him matter in the grand scope of life? It really does matter far more than you might think. Many people wonder if there is any purpose to their existence and is there anyone who really cares.

What did Paul mean by that?
