Do you have a lifelong passion for learning about God and the Bible?

[Darris McNeely] It's that time of year again – schools are back in session. All across the United States and in many other parts of the world, our schools are once again starting a fall semester. Here at our office, our Ambassador Bible Center started up this week. In our orientation, I was talking with the students about a quote I had run across with some friends last week we were discussing. It is by the Irish poet Yeats and it says that "Education is not the filling of a pail," as in a pail of water, "but it is the lighting of a fire." Education is not the filling of the pail but the lighting of a fire – which means that, we don't just fill up once and cap off and consider that our education is ever complete at any point in our life. True education – a right education – is going to inspire you to a lifelong passion for learning. And it should light a fire for that. And when it does, then we are on a journey, a quest in our life, to find and to understand not only this life, this world, but the bigger questions – why there is a God, what His purpose is, why man exists and what man's purpose is. And it is a lifelong quest. And when we anchor our education – as we do here at Ambassador Bible Center – in God's word, which is truth, then we can come to understand exactly what type of a fire is lit when we begin to study into God's pure word and what our purpose is in our life.

It reminded me of a scripture in 2 Corinthians 3:17, where it says, "Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." True education is going to liberate us, obviously, in a way that helps us to understand who we are, and to understand God and His plan and His great purpose. So don't ever consider that your education is complete. And certainly, your education about God and His word, the Bible – it takes a lot of effort to understand that and recognize that it is going to take a fire and a passion in life, to come to understand that. That then is true education that does liberate us.
