How Can God Be Love?

Wednesday, March 20, 2013 (All day)

If God is love what happens to those who never hear of Jesus? Does Revelation 20 have anything to do with a plan of God? How would you answer?

[Steve Myers] You wouldn't get much of an argument from any Christian to say that God is love. We know that 1 John:4:8 says exactly that. Everybody believes that. Yet, there's a disconnect. When it comes to Christianity most believe that if you haven't heard the name of Jesus, you're going to suffer forever in hell. And that's a major issue, a major problem that oftentimes people won't deal with.

[Darris McNeely] And I've not heard really a satisfying answer from Christians who believe exactly this when it comes to the question of then what happens with people of a non-Christian faith who do not believe Jesus Christ was the Son of God, who died for our sins, and who rose on the third day - after the third day, and do not accept Him as their Savior. And if they don't, then what about them? People come up with reasons, but they're not biblical reasons. And that's a hard question that people don't have the answer for.

[Steve Myers] And that's the interesting part. I printed off of a website trying to get a solution where Christians deal with that problem. Here's what one of them said, it said, "This is one of the more vexing questions that Christians encounter" because they don't know how to answer it. They answer it in three different ways on this particular website. Firs they say, "If you haven't heard of Jesus, you're going to burn forever." Now another way they answer this question is by saying, "We do not know how God is dealing with people in lands yet unreached by the gospel." So if you were born in Africa or some parts of Asia, maybe China, and you never heard the name of Jesus, they're saying, "Well, you could go to hell forever, or we're not sure how God's going to deal with that."

[Darris McNeely] The good news of the gospel is that God does have a plan and a purpose for people of the past, of the present, and of the future who have never accepted the name of Jesus Christ because it has never been presented to them in the correct biblical way. And those people are not lost. God in His plan does have an opportunity, a plan for them to come to know Him and His Son Jesus Christ. And the question about the plan today who may not believe in Christ is answered in really understanding the fullness of God's plan that the Bible reveals.

[Steve Myers] Absolutely. If you don't know what that plan is, don't fall for these kinds of answers that are given because they don't know the truth. Look into your Bible and realize God does have a plan for everyone because after all God is love.

I was looking for an answer to the question in the video but it was disappointing to find that watching the video to the end did not reveal anything new and ends with the statement that the answers are there in the Bible which every Christian knows anyway. I believe that God's love is all encompassing and if God's love is superior to human love, he definitely will not condemn the unbelievers and disbelievers to eternal fire since they are also His children. An earthly father will not punish his wayward son the way fanatic Christians believe the Heavenly Father will. Again, salvation is through Grace.

I enjoyed the BT Daily! "How could a loving God condemn people to burn forever who never heard of Jesus?" Most religious leaders can't answer this question. I always squirm watching them try to apologize for God or try to side step the question. It's one of the big holes in most mainstream "Christianity's" beliefs system. The resurrection is the only answer that stands up.

My dad was asking himself this question when he heard The World Tomorrow broadcast in the 60's. He discovered that the bible talks of a resurrection and that there is hope for those who die having never heard of God or Jesus. This was just a start. He learned that a lot of things he grew up accepting as truth was different from what the Bible teaches. He started studying and learning and continues to make sure that what he believes is based on the truth in the Bible.

This truth is special to me because it was the start of my dad's developing a better understanding of God's plan and it is beautiful and immensely comforting to know that God does have a plan for humanity and it is a loving plan.

Remember Seeker, when these guys say "Look into your Bible", they are asking non-believers or first timers to don't just take their word for it, look in the Bible for yourselves. Just think, if a first timer or non-believer were to see this video. It would be so shocking and contradicting to what they were taught.

If God is love what happens to those who never hear of Jesus? The first thing I would like to do is qualify the question. To ask this question we would have to first assume that it is not in God's plan and or ability to bring the gospel message to the whole world before the second coming of Jesus. I believe that God has the ability and scripture supports the fact that the gospel has and will be revealed "appear" to all people, even the dead!
For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,
The gospel which reveals the grace of God is offered to all people but the ungodly reject it.
Jesus confirmed this truth in scripture:
And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.
1 Peter:4:6
For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.
The gospel message will be preached to all people therefore no one will not heat of Jesus.Amen
