[Music Playing] It's the end of the world as we know it and I feel fine.

[Steve Myers] Well, is it the end of the world as we know it?

[Darris McNeely] People are still fascinated by the possibility that December 21st, today, will mark the end of the world. I was reading an article, another one of the many that are out there. In China a thousand people in what they are calling a doomsday cult called, "The Almighty God Cult" were arrested for spreading rumors about the imminent end of the world according to the state media there. They were also saying that December 21st will be the last day, the Mayan long count calendar ushering in three days of darkness and has urged his members to overthrow communism. You know, what made me stop and think about this Steve, is you know, we have had this up here for an earlier daily this week and people are looking at today and it's going to come and go. The world is not going to come to an end, but it made me stop and think. You know, if your world offers very little hope, then end of the world scenarios are quite attractive. These people in communist China, in a totalitarian state, the idea of the end of the world perhaps ushering in something better in their own minds is attractive to them. And it brings us down to a question for every one of us. What's going on in your world, in your life? Is it attractive? Is there hope? Is there understanding? Or do ideas that continue around the end of the world, being raptured away, getting out of this life, are they more attractive than making your world today positive and full of hope?

[Steve Myers] The way to do that is to focus your life around the word of God because God's word is a word of hope. It's a word that really does bring life and the kind of life that really does matter.

[Darris McNeely] I think so. I keep going back to what seems to be a signature Scripture for us here from Beyond Today and one that I've taken a liking to in recent times. That's Deuteronomy 30:19 where God says, "Therefore choose life that both you and your descendants may live." Every one of us may have the opportunity to choose life, to choose a life, and to make a life. And when we do that, then we don't have to worry about these false scenarios that people come up with, whether it's the Mayan calendar or some crackpot religious cult or group that try to predict the end of the world. Make your world a good world beginning today.

[Steve Myers] That's BT Daily . We'll see you next time

Great message. Thank you!

It's only fair to say that the Church of God, too, has a history of failed 'end of the world scenarios'. It's great to see a change of focus in nowadays teachings.
