God has decreed all educated men will be free. How does this match up with Christ's statement?

Transcript

[Darris McNeely] I read a quote recently that has been inscribed upon the walls of a building in one of America's larger universities. The quote goes like this:

"The state has decreed that all free men shall be educated; God has decreed that only educated men shall be free."

That quote, on an American university, matches up perfectly with what Jesus Christ said in John 8:32, when He was talking to a group of people and He made a well-known comment and statement. He said, "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." What a powerful statement. The truth of God – being educated in that truth – is what really, truly makes us free, and is the basis for any education that we might achieve to in whatever field of knowledge that we would go for. The truth of God – the word of God indeed is the foundation of all knowledge and it sets us free.

It sets us free from ignorance – ignorance about God, ignorance about man, ignorance about the purpose for our life. It sets us free from superstition. It sets us also free from the dogma of men – men's ideas and human tradition, connected either with religion, philosophy, or just plain old homespun ideologies that have been inherited and passed on through the generations. The truth also sets us free from fear – fear of the unknown, fear of death. How many times have I spoken those words in the context of the truth about the resurrection at a funeral to help people dealing with the pain of grief and loss, to understand that there is hope. And you begin to see, as you even read those scriptures, the fear begin to lift off of their minds, because the truth indeed does set us free.

We must educate ourselves in the word of God, and when we do, we're on the path to true freedom of mind, heart, and intellect, that sets us free to be able to worship God.
