What is your exit strategy from this life?

Transcript

[Steve Myers] What's your exit strategy? An exit strategy is an objective to get out of a situation once something's been achieved. That's an official definition of that. Would you think of an exit strategy in a spiritual sense? Boy, did Jesus Christ have an exit strategy! His strategy on this earth was to die for the sins of mankind so that we could have an opportunity to be with God forever.

But in this life, what's our exit strategy? What have we got planned so that we'll be where we need to be, where we want to be, where God would want us to be? Do we have an exit strategy? Well, I think we should.

Christ talked about abiding in His word. He said, "If you're my disciples, then you will abide in the truth." And He says that truth will give you an exit strategy. That's in John 8:31. It talks about "The truth will make you free." There will be an exit strategy in that sense from this life. So if you were to think about it in those terms, what is it?

Well, I got to thinking about it, and it reminded me of Hebrews 11. Hebrews 11 is the faith chapter, and it goes through a number of people, great heroes of the Bible, who lived by faith. And down in verse 13, it talks about all of them. It says, "They all died in faith, not having received the promises." But I got to thinking, they did have an exit strategy. They did. It says, "They saw those promises far off, they were assured of them, they embraced them, and confessed they were strangers and pilgrims on earth, for those who say such things declare plainly they seek a homeland" (Hebrews 11:13).

So I thought about in this regard to an exit strategy – they realized this life isn't what it's all about. They had an exit strategy for a future homeland. So what did they do? They did the kinds of things that we all need to do. It says they were assured of the promises of God, they embraced those promises of God, they confessed them, they put their trust, their faith, their hope in God's promises, His plan, and in God Himself – and they were looking for an exit strategy. They were looking for the true homeland. They were looking forward to the kingdom of God.

So if you boiled it all down, I think our exit strategy has to be living that exit strategy, living by the way of God now, so we can look forward to the true kingdom of God – that kingdom that will last forever. And so, put that strategy into place, and we can be assured like those in Hebrews 11 that we can be a part of that future homeland.

That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
