Teddy Roosevelt is credited with saying: “No man is justified in doing evil on the ground of expediency.” Our society seems to have lost that path of behavior and we are much more likely to hear people say “win at all costs,” “the end justifies the means,” “maximize the profits” and dictums like that.

Peter of the Bible knew the sound and good principles that lead to a joyful and exuberant life. Turn away from evil and do good pretty well summarizes his thoughts (1 Peter 3:10-12).

Good trumps an expedient evil every time.
