Danger is present as soon as life begins. Illness and accidents are threats from the start. Some dangers are likely to befall us, but others are very unlikely. Those who are afraid of danger can often see danger everywhere.

Courage is the character trait we need to combat this ever-present threat of danger. God told Joshua to "be strong and of good courage" (Joshua 1:6). The Bible also reminds us that God "'will never leave you or forsake you.' So we may boldly say: 'The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?'" (Hebrews 13:5-6).

Stirring up courage within ourselves and teaching our children to be courageous are vital ingredients for living life to its fullest potential. Danger is all around us, and facing it is the only way we can truly thrive. Surviving trials makes us stronger. Courage is a mind-set that can be learned. Studying examples of faith and practicing it can help us build courage.
