As we learn and face situations, we will fall short of doing the right thing or understanding fully the lessons that we need to know. We can all make a list of times when we failed in something. As the Proverb says, “For a righteous man may fall seven times and rise again” (Proverbs 24:16). We rise because we may realize our mistakes and see the glimmer of hope to do things better.

We rise because we believe there is a merciful and loving God who we can turn to.

Experience is a good teacher, but sometimes the cost of tuition is very high. Jesus told us that if our learning required a harsh experience that could leave us crippled in some way, that education was worth the loss. He said, “It is better for you to enter into life maimed, rather than having two hands, to go to hell, into the fire that shall never be quenched” (Mark 9:43). The better path is the one in which the falls we may take are not so severe that we are badly hurt by them. Wisdom and perseverance will provide the buffers we need (Romans 5:3-4).
