We blurt out our feelings or thoughts without always thinking of the consequences. Angry gestures, snapping at those who give poor service, sounding our horn when we are frustrated and expressing our opinions whether they are asked for or not, all add up to the sort of behavior that tends to turn people off. Those who witness rude behavior usually are left wondering what that person would be like in other situations.

We can try to be on our best behavior when we encounter people today. It can be hard, but we are able to control our tongues, arms and facial expressions. We wouldn't shake our fist in the face of a 300-pound gorilla or bully, would we? We all can have bad days—but rude behavior is something that cannot be excused because we don't feel like being nice.
