I believe one of the greatest miracles God performed in the Old Testament was when He sent a pillar of cloud by day and a pillar of fire by night to lead the Israelites on their journey to the Promised Land. These great signs from God displayed His presence and covered the tabernacle to lead the way. Although the Israelites could see the pillars and listen to the instructions God gave to them through Moses, they still had to actively wait upon and follow God at His command (Numbers 9).
When I was in my tenth grade year of high school, God began a similar journey in my life. He opened my mind to His way of life and I wanted to follow Him wherever He wanted me to be—and I knew that the direction he was leading me was towards Ambasasdor Bible Center .
The circumstances I was living in at the time were rather rough. My family was broken and we were very poor. My mom was fighting her battle with Graves disease and it seemed like we had no hope of things ever changing.
But, in the middle of eleventh grade, my first pillar moved. My mom became jobless and then a woman of great faith and a member of God’s Church graciously opened her home to me and my mom. Her husband had died and her house was being foreclosed on. She only had less than a year to live there, but she gave all that she had and out of pure love gave a place for us to live rent-free.
I transferred schools for my remaining six months and in that time my mom met a man in God’s church that lived in Michigan. By the start of my senior year, they were married and so again, the pillar moved there, all the way from Minnesota.
While I was in Michigan, I got a job and worked long and hard hours after school to earn the tuition to attend ABC. My high school credits didn’t match the standards of the two different high schools and I almost didn’t graduate because of it. But I worked hard and held on to where I knew God was leading me—I was going to go to ABC.
As you may already know, God did it. He provided and led my way here and I am very grateful. As this year is finishing up, I am filled with great anticipation, wondering where His great pillar will lead me next. Ultimately, I look forward to and cannot wait for the ultimate destination—His Promised Land—the Kingdom of God.
As God’s people, let’s carry on in our journey with God to the Kingdom by following His pillars of divine guidance and command. "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God" (Romans 8:14For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. See All...).
