Liz Smith said, “You can’t build a reputation on what you intend to do.” Intentions remain inert unless they are acted upon. The road to failure is paved with good intentions. Reputations are gained by our actions or even lack of them. We all know of people with good reputations and we recognize that nobody is born with a good reputation—that is something that is earned through life.

The Bible speaks of a sluggard as one who may have good intentions, but enjoys resting, playing and not being too involved. The example is given of an ant. In anthills, there are no sluggards, only ants with great reputations. They do not need to be driven into action—they never stop working and being busy. Each of us can determine to learn the keys to following through on our intentions. We are not striving to be “men-pleasers,” but we recognize the value of being well thought-of by God and man. Make your plans in life carefully and then be sure you can finish the job once started (Luke 14:28 Luke 14:28For which of you, intending to build a tower, sits not down first, and counts the cost, whether he have sufficient to finish it?
