I have a refuge in my home. It is a place to go in the early morning and late evening to think about the day and all that is racing around my head. It is where I can be centered through prayer and meditation and reading. I call it Hezekiah’s Courtyard in honor of the king of Judah who led a renaissance of worship and obedience to God in the midst of one of the nation’s darkest hours. He turned the nation around and set them on a true course. His example of leadership is a study in determination and devotion to the God of Abraham.

On this evening of the Feast of Trumpets I spent a some time in the courtyard thinking about the meaning of this great festival of God and the application to today’s world.

The Feast of Trumpets signals the intervention of Jesus Christ into the affairs of man at a time when the world is on the verge of annihilation. Christ will appear in the heavens on a white horse (Revelation 19) and sweep upon the scene of battle to bring divine judgement upon the world. Hear what Revelation 11:15 says. “Then the seventh angel sounded: And there were loud voices in heaven , saying, ‘The kingdoms of this world have become the kingdoms of our Lord and of His Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever!”

It will be the end of human rule and the inauguration of God’s divine rule over all the earth. God will begin the resoration of all things, (Acts 3:21).

With Americs’s financial market in turmoil on this evening it is a good time to step back and think about the time of God’s rule on the earth. I am preparing a Bible study at the upcoming Feast of Tabernacles about the current economic crisis and the Biblical Jubilee. I believe that God has left us a blueprint in scripture that tells exactly how He will “restore all things” during the regin of Christ on the earth. It is based on the fifty year cycle of the Jubilee found in Leviticus 26. This law of economic and social organization will provide the foundation for a just and peaceful world during what the Bible calls the Millenium.

America’s economy is going through a generational change. What emerges will be quite different from what we have had in our lifetime.Whether it will solve the current problem or merely paper over the fundamental problems is yet to be seen.

Tomorrow God’s people will gather for the Feast of Trumpets. The world’s financial markets could very well slide deeper into loss. We will take a break and come before God on His holy day. The world’s problems will be there when we emerge. Doomsday will not arrive this week. We’ll deal with it after a day spent looking ahead to what God will do.

I hope you have a place to go, as I do to Hezekiah’s Courtyard. We all need a place of restoration.
