We are putting together the July issue of World News and Prophecy and have an article on Indonesia and the terrorist threat from that end of the world. Here is the opening lead from that upcoming article by Cecil Maranville:

Indonesia is the scene of some of the world's greatest tragedies of modern times. Much more than a region in need of aid, it is rich in history, the largest Muslim nation in the world - and a democracy. Their recent release of militant Muslim cleric Abu Bashir reopened old wounds and may indicate a future direction away from the West.

On June 14th, Indonesia released Abu Bakar Bashir from prison. Little known in most of the world, his name stirs instant anger in the hearts of Australians and the citizens of Bali - relatives and friends of the 202 people killed in the Bali bombing of 2002. Prime Minister Howard vigorously protested Bashir's release to Indonesian President Yudhoyono.

Bashir is a 68-year-old Muslim cleric and the alleged leader of Jemaah Islamijah (JI), a militant Islamic terrorist group, committed to creating a super-Islamic state by combining Indonesia, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, the southern Philippines and southern Thailand. Active in all of these countries, JI also has ties to al-Qaeda.

I notice in The Australian an opinion piece on the Australian government's handling of Indonesia. Seems the word "appeasement" is being thrown around down under. America is not the only country having immigration issues. If people are risking life and limb to get into a country then that country must be doing something right.

Miami Terrorist Cell Discovered

The FBI capture of five home grown American jihadists who planned to blow up Chicago's Sears Tower is welcome news today. Apparently these  had sworn allegiance to al-Qaeda and desired to strike a blow at America. In all I have read about the group it appears they were a pretty bumbling lot. Whether they would have mounted a credible effort is doubtful. Nonetheless, we can breath a sigh of relief that there are five less enemies of America off the streets this weekend.

What is disturbing is the decision by The New York Times to publish details of America's ability to access international banking transfers through Belgium. Now that more serious jihadist cell groups are tipped off to this key intelligence gathering ability you can bet they will find alternative routes to funnel money within their network. Money is the lifeblood of international terrorism and any nation's ability to track large amounts being transferred from the Middle East into the West is a critical element of deterrence.

Gospel of Unbelief

In my sermon tomorrow I am going through a Powerpoint presentation showing how recent archaeological discoveries in Jerusalem verify the truth of the Bible, even in the smallest detail. Credit goes to Scott Ashley, Managing Editor of The Good News  magazine for putting this together for me. It seems in recent weeks there has been an onslaught of activity aimed at denying the truth of God's word. The main example of this is the mid-May release of The Davinci Code, a movie based on a best selling book. We did a Beyond Today television program entitled, "Jesus, Judas and DaVinci",  on this subject. If you have not had the chance to see it online please view. it You will need a high speed connection for optimum viewing.
