Our booklet The Book of Revelation Unveiled explains:

Who are these 144,000? How are they identified?

"And I heard the number of those who were sealed. One hundred and forty-four thousand of all the tribes of the children of Israel were sealed" (Revelation 7:4). This sealing has to do with receiving God's Holy Spirit so one may become spiritually converted. As Ephesians 1:13-14 says: "Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, [which] is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession" (NIV, compare Ephesians 4:30; 2 Timothy 2:19).

The 144,000 of Revelation 7 are mentioned again in Revelation 14, where it becomes clear that these spiritual "firstfruits" will have repented and been converted before the beginning of the Day of the Lord. They are described as being redeemed and without fault. They are represented as having a relationship both with God the Father and Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God.

"Then I looked, and behold, a Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand, having His Father's name written on their foreheads. And I heard a voice from heaven, like the voice of many waters, and like the voice of loud thunder. And I heard the sound of harpists playing their harps. They sang as it were a new song before the throne, before the four living creatures, and the elders; and no one could learn that song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who were redeemed from the earth.

"These are the ones who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were redeemed from among men, being firstfruits to God and to the Lamb. And in their mouth was found no deceit, for they are without fault before the throne of God" (Revelation 14:1-5).

Jehova’s witnesses says they know the number of out of the 144,000 sealed remaining on earth, and they are all part of their organization, they the only people who eat the unleavened bread and wine because they are going to rule with Christ as first fruits over the rest of the saints on earth and they quote Revelation 7:9 as the saints who will live on earth

There are far too many assumptions when interpreting the Bible and we shold not add words that do not exist.
There are some things mentioned which do not fit in with the explanations trotted out by so-called "experts"
Firstly, why does no one understand what these 144,000 are saying? Are they speaking or singing in a foreign language? If so then how can they be Jewish?
Secondly, why have they got names written on their heads? No one I have ever heard of has names written on their HEADS. Do they mean written on their HELMETS?
Thirdly, if they follow God "wherever he goes", and we know God and Jesus do not normally live on this planet ("I am not of this world...." ... " My Kingdom is not of this world" they must be travelling on some sort of intergalactic craft.
These people are certainly "first fruits" but they are not resurrected! They are the chosen elite of God's intergalactic crew!!

I found this site (which I am quite enjoying!) by google searching for a study guide for Revelations. My question is this: What denomination is UCG? Please, forgive my ignorance, I just can't seem to find anything on the site to answer this question. I am just curious.... Thank you for any and all responses, in advance! God Bless!

    Jessica,
The United Church of God is not of any denomination. We believe we are part of the remnant of the original Church of God referred to in the New Testament. We follow the beliefs of Jesus Christ and the Disciples. God has always kept a remnant of His Church in tact to continue to teach and worship His ways. We keeps the weekly Sabbath as well as the High Holy Days (God's Holy Days of Passover, Unleavened Bread, Pentecost, Feast Of Trumpets, Day of Atonement, The Feast of Tabernacles and the Last Great (8th) Day.) We also observe the clean meats laws. All of these things were observed by Jesus, His Disciples and the early church. We are to follow His ways and that is what we do. Most modern day christianity is based on the early Catholic Church writings and teachings, many of which contradict God's word. That is why most have never heard the truth. The fact that you are asking questions shows that God is in the process of calling you to His truth. Best wishes in your studies.

    Hello Daniel,
You mentioned that you keep the weekly Sabbath, Saturday is tbe Sabbath. Are you keeping Gods holy day as in the 10 commandments?

  • JamesLaura

Hi Linda, You are right, The Sabbath is on Saturday the seventh day of the week.
The best answer is by reading from Gods word.
If you look up Genesis 2: 1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.
Verse 2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.
Verse 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy (also Sanctified in King James version), because on it He rested from all the work of creating that he had done.
Two important things stand out from reading.
One is that Our Lord rested from His work, He set the example for us.
Two is that this Sabbath, on the seventh day is Holy and Sanctified and is set apart for a Holy purpose, worshiping to God.

    The Appointed Festivals

23 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘These are my appointed festivals, the appointed festivals of the Lord, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies.

    The Sabbath

3 “‘There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a sabbath to the Lord.

  • JamesLaura

The Appointed Feast's of God are found , Leviticus 23.
Jesus kept the Sabbath and Appointed Festivals.
Luke 22:15 And he said to them, Jesus not only followed His Father, He lived daily to do His Fathers will.
John 13:15 For I have given you an example, that you should as I have done.
We want to follow Our Lord and follow His example of righteousness.
Yes we keep the 10 Commandments for they are Holy laws that guide us in righteous behavior in this life. They give us peace as we through Gods strength love each other and love our God as we worship Him and by following His way of love.
By studying and keeping the Holy Days we know His plan for all mankind.
Each Holy Day reveals understanding of His Master Plan. Interesting by observing the Holy Days of God and by the Holy Spirit (Teach us) and gives knowledge of His will and how to become like Him.
After Christ was resurrected the early church continued to keep the Feasts of Our Lord.
For example, Paul was keeping "The Feast of Unleavened Bread"
I Corinthians 5:8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

  • United Church of God
Dear Kat, First of all, the United Church of God does not claim that only those among our fellowship are true Christians; we believe that there are true Christians in fellowships outside of United Church of God. Our members strive to repent of sin, keep the commandments of God, and put our faith in Jesus Christ as our Savior (Revelation 14:12). Here is what we know about the 144,000: They are sealed by God (Revelation 7:4 and 9:4). This sealing has to do with receiving the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13-14). Once sealed, they are protected from the seven trumpet plagues described in Revelation 8 and 9. They are the redeemed, and follow Jesus Christ wherever He goes (Revelation 14:4). The Bible does not say from which church organizations they will come, or whether some even belong to any group before they are converted. They are converted from the tribes of Israel during the tribulation, check out our BT daily on this subject at http://www.ucg.org/beyond-today-daily/news-and-prophecy/who-are-144000-revelation. Now as to your question as to whether they are in heaven, the answer is found in John 3:13, “No one has ascended to heaven.” Not even king David, a man after God’s heart (Acts 13:22) is in heaven (Acts 2:34). Instead of going to heaven when we die, we go to the graves to await the resurrection. Jesus said in John 5:25, 28-29, “Most assuredly, I say to you, the hour is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God; and those who hear will live... Do not marvel at this; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth -- those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.” So instead of the dead saints being alive and awake in heaven, they are asleep (Daniel 12:2 and 1 Corinthians 15:51). The dead saints will be raised back to life at the sound of the last trumpet (1 Corinthians 15:52). Does your church believe the 144,000 are from your chruch or that you know the number of those already gone to heaven? Sincerely, Kat
  • JamesLaura

    Hi Kat,
Our church searches scriptures and relies on Gods word for our beliefs.
The 144,000 are followers of Jesus.
Revelations 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
Revelations 7:3 Saying, Hurt not the earth, neither the sea, nor the trees, till we have sealed the servants of our God in their foreheads. (This is your answer, those who serve God faithfully)
So we know they are not in a particular church. But they keep Gods Sabbath and His Holy Days and humble themselves in service to God.
John 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. Only Jesus ascended to heaven.
The rest of the servants that died before Christ's returned are just asleep. When Christ returns He will then resurrect them, and the 144,000 that were sealed and protected from the impending Days of Tribulation.
1 Corinthian 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

  • Grandog5

How can Jesus raise us up when He comes if we are already in Heaven?
The 144,000 are those who didnt loose faith and kept their eyes on Jesus right up till He comes. They are the only living faithful believers in Christ. No denominations of any churches will be remembered!
