The recent discovery and shooting death of Osama bin Laden has been hailed as the most significant development in the global war on terror. All over the U.S. the news was widely celebrated with enthusiastic displays of joy and patriotic fervor, despite the fact that most people realize that killing Bin Laden will not put an end to terrorism. In fact many fear reprisals and increased terrorist attacks, and wonder whether terrorism can ever be eliminated.

Killing our enemies will not solve the problem long-term. Bible prophecy reveals that war and violence will continue on earth until Christ returns. So what will be the long-term solution?

What experts say

According to Christian Science Monitor writer Tom Regan, "In a survey of 117 of America's leading foreign-policy experts…a large majority of those polled (84 percent) believe that the US is not winning the war on terror. And most of the experts surveyed believe that if the US is to win that larger war, it must first win the 'war of ideas' through the use of 'non-military tools' like diplomacy and multilateral organizations."

But will diplomacy succeed? Is it possible to convince terrorists to abandon their activities? What "ideas" would work and where could they be found?

Why man cannot solve the problems of war and terrorism

The words of the prophet Isaiah addressed to the ancient nation of Israel read like a commentary on current political and military efforts to achieve peace, "No one calls for justice, Nor does any plead for truth. They trust in empty words and speak lies; they conceive evil and bring forth iniquity. They hatch vipers' eggs and weave the spider's web; he who eats of their eggs dies, and from that which is crushed a viper breaks out. Their webs will not become garments, nor will they cover themselves with their works; their works are works of iniquity, and the act of violence is in their hands. Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood; their thoughts are thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction are in their paths. The way of peace they have not known, and there is no justice in their ways; they have made themselves crooked paths; whoever takes that way shall not know peace" (Isaiah 59:4-8).

Even if universal disarmament could be achieved, that alone would not solve the problems of war and terrorism, because the Bible reveals that the cause of war is deeply rooted in the nature of man.

"Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures" (James 4:1-3).

God's plan to put an end to war and violence

I can assure you, from reliable informed sources, that the war on terror will be won.

The answers to these challenging questions can be found in the prophecies of your Bible. The Scriptures also reveal who will lead this successful effort and what methodology will be employed to put an end to terrorism.

Although no human efforts can change the underlying cause of human nature, the good news is that God plans to do just that. God's master plan to bring a total and permanent end to not only terrorism but all war is the essence of the gospel of the Kingdom of God. Jesus Christ is coming back to earth to usher in a thousand years of peace and prosperity. The prophet Isaiah was inspired to write that, "He shall judge between the nations, and rebuke many people; they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore" (Isaiah 2:4).

My brother gave me five-DVDs entitled, "Encyclopedia of the 20th Century; Days That Shook the World." It covered the time from 1900-1999. Granted there were some technological breakthroughs, i.e. radio and television, the space race, the brownie camera. But violence dominates, from the Boxer Rebellion (1901)to the Gulf War (1991), not including the assassinations, and murders. I never realized how violent this world is and how I just went along through life not even thinking about a Creator, except just supposing He exist. It was when my mind was granted the privilege, and the opportunity to see a proper way of living that will come on all, I'd be a fool to receive my seed on "stony ground."
