"Time and chance"? What's that?

What does the Bible means when it says that "time and chance happen to them all"?

Regarding Lesson 8 of your Bible Study Course, how can water baptism be for the forgiveness of sins, as water cannot wash away sins? It is the blood of Jesus Christ that washes away sin.

Baptism is really the burying of the old man as we symbolically die to the way we were, coming up out of the water as a symbolic resurrection of the new man.

I am not clear about Luke 23: 43, where Jesus told one of those crucified with Him that he would be with Him in paradise. I've heard it explained that the comma is in the wrong place, which changes the meaning. Can you help clarify this verse?

Did the thief go to Heaven?

I would like to know why I was put on this planet because I'm fed up with my life.

When and how often should Christians partake of the Lord's Supper as directed by Jesus to remember His death for the sins of the world?

Should we take the communion whenever we want or is there a prescribed frequency?

Baptism is a symbol of our partaking of the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. It cannot save a person. Look at LUKE 23: 42, ACTS 9:17-18, 1JOHN 1:9 and ROMANS 10:9.

Both the thief on the cross (LUKE 23:42) and Saul (9:17-18) were saved before being baptized. 1JOHN 1:9 states the only required condition is to confess our sins, and ROMANS 10:9 states confess with our mouth Jesus Christ, believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, and we will be saved.

Dec. 25 is a date. Who cares about the date? We don't know exactly when Jesus was born anyway. No, the Bible doesn't tell us to celebrate Jesus' birth, but we celebrate it on our own.

I am writing about your obviously controversial article "The Top Ten Reasons Why I Don't Celebrate Christmas." The author is concerned about involving himself in pagan customs. We celebrate Thanksgiving and that's not about glorifying God, even if it should be. Should we stop celebrating that too? So why wouldn't we celebrate His birth, that of the most wonderful Man ever to step onto this...

I have no doubt that God exists and that the man called Jesus of Nazareth was His Son. I find hardly any reference to the word "church" in Jesus's words, nor can I connect Him to popes, cardinals, archbishops or domineering pastors.

Jesus was not in the churches where I worshipped, and yet everyone insisted on His presence. It is better to believe that He is at God's right hand until He returns. Don't feel obligated to answer my doubts about Christianity, but I am sure what you have to say will be valuable in that you are plain speaking and uncomplicated.

Doesn't Colossians 2:14-15 Say the Law Was Nailed to the Cross?

Many have asked about Colossians 2:14-15 and the "handwriting of ordinances that was against us" (King James Version), which Paul said Christ nailed to the cross.

As a person who follows Jesus Christ's teachings and believes in the Son of God, shouldn't I celebrate His birthday?

I need to know the exact—or better still, the true Bible birth date—of Jesus Christ. Is this possible?

Your teaching that people will receive a second chance for salvation after they are dead is totally wrong, un-scriptural and very dangerous. Please reply in the next issue or we will cancel our subscription.

There is nothing in the Scriptures to support anyone getting a second chance for salvation once they are dead.

Could you please tell me what denomination your church is?

My husband and I are both Baptists, but we enjoy your magazine.

The whole world is in a mess wars, conflicts, the killing of innocent peoples. Can we do anything A major, determined effort is required if humanity is to survive.

The world seems hopeless.

I was raised pagan and have always felt that the path chosen for me was the wrong one. I want to follow the right path but do not know where to start. I am not even sure that God will want me since I have been pagan for so long.

I believe Scripture does present Sunday, the first day of the week, as a day of worship (see Acts 20: 7; 1 Corinthians 16:1-2; Revelation 1:10)—as a change made by the apostles. Also, we gentiles may be under different commandments than the Jews.

I disagree with the logic in your Good News sidebar titled "Do All Churches Get Their Teaching From the Bible?" (May-June 2005, p. 19), which stated that there is no directive in the Scriptures for Sunday worship and that "people who think that the Scriptures should be the sole authority, should logically . . . keep Saturday holy."

Thank you for sending your Fundamental Beliefs booklet. I was intrigued by this statement: "The Holy Spirit of God is not identified as a third person in a trinity, but is consistently described as the power of God." What am I to infer from this?

Do you not believe in the Holy Trinity?

Do you use the King James Version? This is the only Bible that is truly inspired of God, so it is a very deep concern of mine considering the scriptures quoted in your magazine. Please let me know.

I am disappointed by your denomination's teaching about the Trinity and find your reasons for rejecting the concept less than satisfactory.

Jesus refers to it as the Counselor who can only come and will come when Jesus leaves the earth, and that that was to be our great comfort (John 16:7). Furthermore there are numerous places where the Holy Spirit is described in his activity with verbs such as help, dwell, is being sent forth, bears witness and searches all things, just to name some.
