Plan to join us for the 2007 Winter Family Weekend!
Update: November 29, 2007
The Clarion Hotel is now full and the Holiday Inn is out
of double-bed rooms. We have secured a third housing property
once again this year. The Chariot Hotel (within walking distance
of the Clarion) is taking reservations for $40 plus tax per night.
Call (502) 491-2577 for reservations.
Although the hotel rooms
are booking, online registrations have
been slower than normal this year. It is tremendously
helpful to us in our planning to have this information. This is
also how we obtain our lists of volunteers that help make this
event so successful. Please take time to register
online as soon
as possible!
We would also like to encourage all who can to donate to the
opening evening dessert reception. Please contact Emily Stoner
directly with any questions or to inform her of what you would
like to bring at (812) 247-3013
or jimily@juno.com.
This information is needed by December 10th.
Due to one of
our facilities making a last minute change of plans we have
had to make several schedule changes. View the venue and time
changes.
Updated Schedule of Events
Brochure (PDF format).
We have also adjusted the rock and country concert on Monday
evening to include a jam session portion for the first 90 minutes
for those who would like to play some music together. This change
does not impact the country/bluegrass jam session.
Two final reminders:
- Parents please do not send your teens without
appropriate supervision for their own safety and protection.
- The
dress code for this event is that of our United Youth Camps.
We're excited about this year’s activities and look
forward to seeing each of you at this year's Winter Family
Weekend in Louisville.
Update: October 29, 2007
Make plans to set aside December 21-25, 2007 and join 2,000 of your closest family and friends for four days of education, fellowship, fun and games. We're excited this year to once again offer affordable housing and excellent sporting venues for what promises to be a another memorable Winter Family Weekend. It all begins with a Bible study on Friday evening (December 21) at 7:30 followed by a dessert reception and ends at midnight on Tuesday night (December 25).
The educational theme of this year's Winter Family Weekend is "Building Godly Relationships". No matter who we are, where we are from or what we do for a living we all have to work with other people. We have to work with other people every day at work, at school, on sports teams, and in our homes. God gives us much instruction in the bible concerning the importance of developing Godly relationships. Come hear seminars covering many aspects on this topic. No less than 25 of our United States pastors will be giving presentations throughout the weekend. Resident ABC faculty will also be giving 2 full days of continuing education for any and all wishing to attend, and last, but not least we will be offering another day of World News and Prophecy seminars which is a first for this event. We are excited to be offering such a wide array of classes and Bible studies.
As always, there will be more activities to choose from than one can actually participate in. We make it a goal to provide something for everyone. Both babysitting and Sabbath school classes will be provided on the Sabbath during the seminar time frame so parents can soak in the seminar information.
This year you can choose to participate in any of the following sports – basketball, volleyball, speedaway, rock climbing, indoor tennis, indoor swimming, flag football, cardio center and weight room, organized children's games, dances, two musical jam sessions, family fun fair with games and rides such as fire truck slide, first down, mechanical bull, moon bounce, obstacle course, putt-putt, twin spin, velcro wall, zing swing, and many more. A family novelty Olympics will also be held. Cards and board games will be available for check out at the sports facilities.
Due to the increased attendance we have added a brand new state of the art basketball facility to our venues this year. This will allow for many more volleyball courts as well as basketball courts. Please note that the volleyball will be held at Mid-America Sports Center while the basketball will take place at HOOPS, a separate facility. We will be using two other sports facilities for additional activities as well as the Clarion Conference Center for even more.
This year's teen dance theme is "City Nights" a night out on the town (semi-formal wear). Ages 12-19.
The theme of the young adult dance is "Black, White and Bling". The dress for this dance is semi-formal or formal. Cost for the dance is $6 and can be paid in advance or at the door. Ages 18-39.
The theme for the family dance this year is 80's. Prizes will be given to those who come dressed in their best 80's outfit. Nothing offensive or immodest please and no shorts or tank tops. If you do not come dressed in 80's, the dress is nice casual…nice jeans or better.
On Monday night you can take in or participate in a bluegrass/county jam session or a rock-n-roll concert. This year the rock-n-roll jam session is being upgraded to consist of already rehearsed groups playing a set of music. If you have a band, or a group of people who can put together some songs between now and this event you need to contact Mark Winner at mark_winner@ucg.org You will be asked to submit a list of 5-15 songs you would like to play along with the band members names and possibly a demo tape. The deadline to sign up for this is December 10.
As always WE NEED YOU to help make this a successful event. Please take time to register in advance at www.ucg.org/familyweekend This helps us plan for each activity as well as gives us volunteers to make sure we have all the help needed at each venue. For those participating in sporting events the early registration fee is $15 per person or $45 maximum per family of 4 or more. The deadline for early registration is December 14. Any registrations after that date can be taken, but the fee will be collected at the door and is $20 per person or $50 maximum per family of 4 or more. Anyone who cannot register online please pick up a copy of the online registration form from your pastor. The venue for wall climbing is a separate fee of $10 per person for a 4 hour time block. And after much discussion we have decided to share the cost of the referees for the men's basketball games this year with those participating in the games, so anyone participating in men's basketball the fee will be $5 additional.
