Valentine's Day

Right on the heels of the Catholic church's denouncement of the ancient pagan festival known as Lupercalia came the rise in popularity of a new, church-sponsored festival: St. Valentine's Day. Did the festival itself change, or just the name? And is Valentine's Day something Christians should participate in?

Chalk it up to my never having observed Valentine’s Day, but most years the holiday comes and goes without really registering with my brain. But this year, there’s a huge cultural event in America happening concurrent with Valentine’s Day

How do you show love and honor to someone special in your life? Do you take them out to dinner, buy them a gift, or treat them to a day out on the town?

If you wanted to give someone a gift of love, how would you go about it? Would you take someone who hates roller coasters on a roller coaster ride? Would you bake someone a chocolate cake if they were allergic to chocolate? Would you write them a check for a million dollars, knowing you only had 10 dollars in your bank account?

Should You Participate in Valentine's Day?

Each year millions of people observe Valentine's Day. By sending cards and giving flowers, candy and other gifts, many consider the holiday as an opportunity to show affection to their special sweethearts.

Of course buying presents and doing nice things for one's true love is admirable. But should you and I participate in Valentine's Day as a means of showing fondness and esteem? More importantly, is this something our Creator God endorses and honors?

Holidays or Holy Days: Does It Matter Which Days We Observe?

Many people are shocked to discover the origins of our most popular religious holidays. They are also surprised to find that the days God commands us to observe in the Bible—the same days Jesus Christ and the apostles kept—are almost universally ignored. Why? Also, why are today's supposedly Christian holidays observed with so many rituals and customs that are not sanctioned anywhere in the Bible? In this booklet you'll discover detailed answers to these questions.
