Mark Mickelson arrived for his second visit to Cameroon on the morning of Nov. 23, staying until Dec. 6. During his first visit, he was accompanied by Gabriel Vautour of Canada, who came as a French interpreter. However, this time he came without an interpreter since Moïse Mabout had made enough progress in English to be able to translate during the trip.
Yagoua
The first part of the trip was spent in Yagoua, in the far north of Cameroon, approximately 1,200 miles from Douala. In a 107°F heat, we held Sabbath services on Nov. 26, and Mr. Mickelson spoke on the various roles and service opportunities within the Church. He urged the brothers and sisters not to follow a man and instead to have eyes fixed on God. The brethren were comforted. Among other things, the primary need of our brothers and sisters in Yagoua is a place to hold Sabbath services. For the moment they meet in a small shed made of straw.
On Sunday, Nov. 27, we had a meeting with a man who came from the neighboring nation of Chad. He made the trip just to meet us. It was his first time that he had made contact with any of us. He had heard about the church through a contact address listed in a copy of Bonnes Nouvelles that he had borrowed from his neighbor. We had the opportunity to answer all his questions, and he left very satisfied. We will see what God will do in the future.
Douala
On the Sabbath of Dec. 3, Mr. Mickelson was in Douala. He came with two suitcases containing large tents for the youth camp and other youth programs. The entire church in Cameroon is very happy to have this material.
The evening of Dec. 4, we held a Bible study, and Ndanga Evee Patrick joined the Body of Christ through baptism and the laying on of hands. On Sunday, December 5, Mark Mickelson attended our Good News distribution program in the anglophone area of Cameroon, where the primary spoken language is English. We had distributed the magazine in the towns of Limbe, by the ocean, and in Muntegene. Mr. Mickelson was passionate about our strategy to present the Church in the anglophone region since we are all French-speaking. Mr. Mickelson returned home on Dec. 6. We look forward to his next visit, God willing.
