A sweet, crisp topping over sweet, tender apple slices.

| 1⁄2 | Cup | butter (softened) |
Cut apple into fourths then core, peel, and slice to measure 4 cups (about 5 medium apples). Put apple slices in 8 x 8 x 2 pan. Mix ¼ cup sugar and cinnamon in small bowl, then sprinkle over apples. Pour water over apples. Mix flour, 2/3 cup sugar, and butter with hands in medium bowl until crumbly, then sprinkle over apples. Bake 45-50 minutes at 375º.
