| 1⁄4 | Teaspoon | baking soda |

| 1⁄2 | Cup | shortening |
| 1 | Cup | cheddar cheese (shredded) |
| 1 | Cup | buttermilk |
Preheat oven to 450°. Sift flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt together in a mixing bowl. Cut shortening and cheese into mixture until it had the consistency of coarse meal. Ad bettermilk, stir until mixture leaves sides of bowl and forms a soft dough. Knead lightly on floured surgace until dough is no longer sticky. Roll dough out to 1/2 inch thickness. cut with a 2-inch floured cutter. Place on a greased baking sheet. Bake for 8-12 minutes or until golden brown.
