| Prep time | 1 hour |
| 2 | Cup | sugar |
| 1 | Cup | milk |
| 1 | Tablespoon | butter |
| 1 | Teaspoon | vanilla |
| 1 1⁄2 | Cup | peanut butter (Jiffy brand works well) |
First butter a large plate (there won't be time to butter it later). Mix sugar and milk in a 4-qt. (minimum) cooking pan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly over high heat until mixture forms a soft ball in cold water. (If you overcook it, the mixture will set up prematurely when you are beating it.) Remove from heat and blend in the butter, vanilla, and the preferred amount of peanut butter. Beat mixture with beater until mixture will stand by itself. Pour immediately onto the large buttered place and spread evenly. Allow to cool, cut into squares and enjoy.
This recipe has been handed down in my family for at least 75 years and maybe longer., It is one of our favorites.
