Is it possible to understand what death really is? What happens when we die?

Well said, Mr. Olmon! and the truth is far superior to the lie. "A careful study of the Scriptures reveals major problems with popular beliefs about life after death. Sadly, these misguided ideas have masked the truth about the incredible future God has planned for us! ...The Bible reveals that the best that man can experience lies beyond the grave. It shows us that converted Christians will inherit eternal life at the first resurrection and that death will never again lay a claim on them: "So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: 'Death is swallowed up in victory'" (1 Corinthians 15:54). The life to come will be vastly superior to this present, temporary existence. It will be a life abounding in both purpose and pleasure: "In your presence is fullness of joy; at Your right hand are pleasures forevermore," wrote David (Psalm 16:11)... The future God has planned for us is fantastic beyond belief! It is far superior to the fanciful heaven of men's imagination" (Heaven and Hell: What Does the Bible Really Teach?). http://www.ucg.org/booklet/heaven-and-hell-what-does-bible-really-teach/ For related resources, see: http://www.ucg.org/doctrinal-beliefs/heaven-and-hell/

Death is quite adequately defined in the Bible. The problem is that people don't want to accept the Bible's explanation. They want to go with the original lie from Satan ("you positively will not die") spoken to Eve in his persuading her to eat of the forbidden fruit. So, mankind has, with help from the demons & Satan, come up with all different kinds of traditions and beliefs about where man goes and what happens after death. Many different 'Heavens' and 'Hells', all based on man having an 'immortal soul'. All a continuation of that original lie - - "You positively will not die" >>> But God says the the wages of sin is death. Nowhere in the Bible is there any reference to everlasting torture in 'Hell'. In fact, the very idea of the Hell as taught by numerous apostate sects comes from 'Dantes Inferno' > > > > Now -- Lets see what the Bible DOES say about death. To begin with, @ Genesis 2:17, death was the stated punishment for disobeying the one restriction God put on man. Sin is defined as disobeying God's decrees. @ Ecclesiastes 9:4-6 It is explained that when a person dies, all consciousness is gone. It is the total opposite of life. There isn't any purgatory, limbo or Hell and nobody goes to Heaven either. John 3:13 King James Version (KJV) 13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. What we DO have to look forward to is the promised resurrection, @John 5:28 Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice 29 and come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practiced vile things to a resurrection of judgment. Taht is what the Bible very clearly states. Anything expounding on or taking away from that is, purely and simply, apostasy.
