Mavis (Miller) Stucci was born in New Zealand in 1946. In 1949 the family moved to Canada, initially to Ontario then to British Columbia, to a wilderness farm. Her father also worked as a lumberjack and in dam building. There was no electricity or running water in the log house, but it was “the best childhood anyone could have.” Nine years later the family returned to New Zealand. In 1966 Mavis went to Australia. She married in 1969, had one son and came into God’s Church in 1975.

In 1991, after a divorce and retrenchment, Mavis earned a diploma in Fine Arts at UNSW, Sydney. Then she spent three months travelling alone, soaking up art and visiting friends around the world—“a wonderful education.” Mavis has enjoyed a variety of jobs and education. She has picked fruit, done graphic design (before computers), illustration, teaching art in medium and high security jails in New South Wales, has been cattle-droving during drought, among many other jos. “Sometimes I wonder what God has in store for me, with all these training programs.” Painting and writing have been lifelong loves.

During her first year of retirement, Mavis completed two online writing courses; she has also learned proofreading and editing. She rents a cabin “in the bush” and loves being close to God’s amazing creation, far away from city life. A satellite dish provides Internet service. She reads a lot and has no Television. God and Christ, God’s Church, her son, family, friends (“humans and others”) make her life rich.
