“A wise servant will rule over a son who causes shame, and will share an inheritance among the brothers” (Proverbs 17:2).

A capable employee often rises higher than an irresponsible son. For instance, Solomon's servant, Jeroboam, gained control over ten of the tribes of Israel, leaving Solomon's unwise and unjust son, Rehoboam, with only two tribes, Judah and Benjamin.

An entitlement attitude, taking for granted the truth of God's way of life, can put our relationship with God in danger. We are blessed to have God's calling, but if we don't respond to it or disrespect it, God can give that calling to someone else.
