God knows what we need and wants to bless us. But at times he needs to get our attention.

[Steve Myers] When our kids were really small I used to get their attention by whistling. I had this special little whistle that they would recognize and immediately turn and look to me. And I got their attention whether we were at a store, whether we were outside, or we'd get their attention to "Hey, pay attention, what's up." So they would often come to me then and say, "Alright, what's up dad?" And I got to thinking about that because sometimes God wants to get our attention. He wants to give us some awesome things.

So I put up on the board today Jeremiah 29:11 which talks about the great things God wants to give us. It says, God says, "I know the thoughts I think towards you," it says, "Thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope." And you know like a good parent we want our kids to have a future. We want them to have a hope and have something to look forward to that is good. But you know sometimes God's got to get our attention. And it's not exactly through whistling that He does it. Sometimes God uses circumstances to get our attention. And I wonder if oftentimes we're really listening for that spiritual whistle you might say.

Sometimes God uses circumstances. It might be a trial or a difficulty to get our attention. And yet on the other hand sometimes we might have an amazing blessing that God uses to catch our attention, to get us to notice the wonderful things that are happening around us. Maybe it's an unusual blessing. Sometimes it could be disappointment that God uses as that spiritual whistle to get us tuned into Him and sometimes just an unusual circumstance. Maybe a bizarre happenstance that happens that God can use to get our attention and focus on Him.

Now the point is if something interesting's happening in your life, if that spiritual whistle is going on, don't allow life's circumstances, don't allow your busy-ness to distract you from listening to that spiritual attention getter. Make sure you tune into God. And if that's happening, now's the time to pray, "God, what's up? What is it that you want my attention for?"

That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
