Should you take the bread and wine any time?

Transcript

[Steve Myers] How often should you take the bread and the wine? Well, 1 Corinthians 11 makes a vital point. It tells us in verse 25 – here Paul is reciting what Christ taught him. He said, “In the same manner, (Christ) He also took the cup after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in My blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.’” Or as a memorial to Me. Verse 26 says, “For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes” (1 Corinthians 11:25-26).

So people oftentimes will think, “Well, I could take it every week or once a month or however often that I want to.” But the problem with that is, they forget what was the example of Jesus Christ. If we’re going to do this in remembrance of Him, well, we better remember what He did. How often did Christ keep the Passover? How often did He drink that cup? How often did He eat that bread?

Well, in His example, He did it once a year. It was a memorial, that He did it once a year, just like we keep Memorial Day once a year. We don’t do it anytime we want, we do it on that day. And so that’s exactly what Christ did, only once a year, and He did it at the specified time, because it was a memorial, it was a remembering.

So let’s often ask ourselves, “How did Christ do it?” How did Christ do it? Well, He did it once a year, and that’s as often as He did it. Because it focuses us on Him, and remembering what He did, and remembering His sacrifice.

That’s BT Daily. We’ll see you next time.

Dear Steve, Thanks for the good advice on how often do we keep Passover. The next time I come across someone who challenges me about how often to keerp Passover I will be ready for them. This is very simple, thanks again. Have a nice Passover and Days of Unleaven Bread. The lionswhelp - Dennis Brydon
