The Bible reveals the amazing importance of Jerusalem's future.
[Steve Myers] Some have asked why do we talk about Jerusalem so much on Beyond Today and oftentimes here on BT Daily as well. Well, there's a number of reasons - a couple of things to think about Jerusalem, especially in regards to Jerusalem's future. Right now we see the challenges, the troubles, the disagreements over Jerusalem and the property that surround the Holy Land. But you know, in the future Jerusalem has a very important part to play.
A couple of things to think about - Jerusalem in the future will be the true God's seat of government. It will be headquarters you might say. And in fact as we think about Jerusalem for the future, Jeremiah 3:17 comes to mind because it says very clearly that Jesus Christ is going to return and Jerusalem will be the headquarters for that new Kingdom of God, God's government on earth. Now, that's not the only reason a future Jerusalem is so important.
When you talk about Jerusalem, the Bible clearly says there's coming a time when people will come to Jerusalem and worship there. So Jerusalem will be a point where all nations will come. All nations will come and worship at Jerusalem. And you can find that in your Bible in the book of Zechariah and in chapter 14 it talks about Jerusalem being a center of worship where people will come to Jerusalem and worship the one true God there (Zechariah 14:16-19).
And there's a third aspect to a future Jerusalem, the importance of Jerusalem and the plan of God. When Jesus Christ returns, it talks about the fact that Jerusalem not only will be the seat of government, not only will nations come there and worship the one true God, but from Jerusalem the truth of God will spread to the entire world.
There's an amazing passage that's in Malachi - it's not in Malachi, it's in Micah. Let's get this right. We'll fix this. In Micah 4:2 and there it talks about spreading the truth, that God's word will spread to the entire world. In fact, let me read that passage for you. It's in Micah 4:2 it says, "Many nations shall come and say, 'Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us His ways. We shall walk in His paths.' For out of Zion the law shall go forth and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem."
Now that's something to look forward to, the time when Christ will return. Ultimately all nations will be able to understand the truth. They'll have an opportunity to worship the one true God, ultimately the time when there won't be any war and fighting surrounding Jerusalem, when ultimately the Kingdom of God will be here. Jesus Christ will be the King of that Kingdom and peace and unity and true freedom will spread throughout the entire world starting at Jerusalem.
That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
