What are we consuming? Is it the "junk food" of distraction, or the health and nourishment of God's Word?

Transcript

[Steve Myers] Have you heard of the new COVID symptom study? Not a study that's studies coughing and sniffling and those types of symptoms, but it actually gets down to studying some of the things that resulted from COVID.

And one of the things that this particular study that the Massachusetts General Hospital did was it found that COVID has led to an explosion of snacking, snack foods, in other words, eating junk foods, and that on average, people have gained seven pounds during the pandemic. That's a whole lot more than even people gain during the holidays. Now, if we switch gears for a moment, think about it from a spiritual perspective. Do we have a tendency just to snack on God's way or do we have a tendency to just get involved with junk food kinds of activities, things that steal our attention, our entertainment, distractions in life, or even our business? I mean, is that really a physical schedule problem or is that really evidence of a deeper spiritual problem?

I think the Psalms really get to the heart of the matter when we consider this very point. Psalm 37:4 is a good reminder of where we should have our focus. It says, "Delight yourself also in the Lord and He'll give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass." And as we consider that, it talks about our desire, what we really focus on, what we really should be zeroing in on. It's definitely not junk snack food activities of this world, but focusing in on God and His Word, and developing a deeper relationship with Him. So, the next time you reach for some snack foods, maybe think of digging deeper into the Word of God, and be that much more committed to Him in His way.

That's "BT Daily." We'll see you next time.
