Another crucial element of understanding God's Word is to hold fast to His truth.
[Steve Myers] A vital key to understanding the Bible is to hold fast to what is good. That's a biblical principle, that when you learn something out of the Word of God, don't let it go. Don't change your mind. When you've proven this to be true, then we not only have to apply it, but we have to hold on to it and not let go. When we understand what God is doing in our lives, don't allow yourself just to, you know, kind of, casually believe something, be convicted of it. Take it to heart. Recognize the value in God's Word. He's our Creator. He knows what's best for us. And when we prove it to be true, hang on, and don't ever let go.
I was reminded of a billboard I saw one time as I was driving out in the country. And it said, "God said it. I believe it. That settles it." It's so pretty specific in that way. Yeah, that's straightforward. If God does say these things, and when you prove it to yourself, and you know it to be true, that does settle it. It should settle in our mind, and we don't ever want to let it go.
So one thing we can do as we study God's Word, as we ask Him to reveal His truth, and we're convicted of that truth, ask Him to give us that conviction and that commitment to follow through and remain true no matter what. No matter what life may bring, whatever distractions that might come up, ask God to help you to put those things aside, and always hold fast to the Word of God. Reminded of that very principle in 1 Thessalonians 5:21 1 Thessalonians 5:21Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.
American King James Version×, it says this, "Test all things," which means you prove these things. Then it says, "Hold fast to what is good." And so be sure and do that. Hold fast to the Word of God, and you will be sure that God is watching over your life.
