Life's detours can sometimes take us to the most beautiful scenery.

Transcript

[Steve Myers] I ran into a detour on life a while back. I was driving down the road, and there was a sign. It said, "Detour ahead." But I had just been down that road. It was like three days before that, and I went right down that line, and it wasn't a problem at all. So I thought, "It can't possibly be a detour today." So I kept going down that way. And I went about a mile, and the little bridge that was normally there was gone. They had demolished it within those couple of days. And I had to turn around. I had to turn around and go back the other way. And to add insult to injury, as I came back to that detour sign, on the backside of that detour sign, there was a little note that somebody had scrawled on the back, and it said, "We told you so." And I thought, "Oh, boy, that's the way life is sometimes." Sometimes we still try to go the way and there's just no way ahead. I had to follow that sign. I had to depend that that sign was accurate because it was.

And I think spiritually speaking, that's a lesson we can learn too, is that through life's detours, God wants us to learn to depend on Him. Dependence on God, it is so critical. And God gives us signs in life and tells us, "You can depend on me. Even though this may not seem like the best way to you, I will guide you through it."

And so He did that with the Israelites. They weren't sure they should go this roundabout way. But what did God do? He gave them a pillar of fire and a pillar of cloud to lead them day or night. They could look and see God was there, even though this might not be the most logical path that they thought they should take, but God was there. So depend on Him.

And it's true with our lives as well. Psalm 37 is a verse that ties in with this as well, in verse 23 and verse 24, as well. Psalm 37:23 and 24 reminds us of that. It says, "The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord. He delights in His way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down, for the Lord holds him up with his hand."

You see, when you go down a detour of life, we may fall, may seem that there is no way ahead. And yet this is such a good reminder. When we depend on God, He's gonna reach down, He's gonna pick us up and get us on that path that's gonna take us, ultimately, the best way for us. And God's got His hand in that. And so let's make that our perspective.

When life is challenging us with a trial or a difficulty, depend on God. Turn To Him, and He will never let us come to a dead end.

That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
