We are known by how we live our lives. Are we demonstrating a Christian life?

[Darris McNeely] America has a new Supreme Court Justice. Amy Coney Barrett was sworn in last night as I speak at the White House after being confirmed by the United States Senate to become the next Justice of the Supreme Court. This entire episode has captured again the attention of America in the midst of a very critical election season. But to watch the confirmation hearings of Judge Barrett a few weeks ago, to watch her with her family and the way she handled herself, and to then see that she was affirmed, is a very positive thing for our country. And it's just a part of the workings of the United States of America, the constitutional process that is laid out there.

But one thing was said about Judge Barrett. A few years ago, when she was first nominated to become a federal judge, she came before the same Senate Judiciary Committee. There was opposition at that time to her. One of the senators made a comment to her because Judge Barrett is a staunch devout Roman Catholic. She's a good mother. She's a good citizen. She's a type of person that you'd want as your neighbor. And she is a genuinely good person by all accounts. And her example, you know, caught a lot of attention. But in politics and in Washington, one's firm belief in religion and God can be a problem for certain individuals. There's one Senator, in concluding her comments and questionings of Judge Barrett, a few years ago, said to her in a rather pejorative manner, "The dogma lives loud within you." Well, that's true. Within Judge Barrett, her dogma, her faith, her belief, lives loud. She lives it.

It's a very good question for us to consider. Does the dogma live loud in us? How about in you? Does your faith live loud? Do you live your faith? Is it easy to detect by people that you are a person of integrity, that you live what you profess? The Word of God, the Bible, you live it and your dogma, the teaching by which you base your life, in this case, the belief in God, His word, God's kingdom, the truth of God doesn't live loudly in your life?

That's a question I think that I come away with, as I conclude this latest confirmation hearing for a new Supreme Court Justice. The example of this individual and how that was portrayed here before the American public really is a good question for every one of us to ask. Does our dogma, does our faith or belief live loud within us?
