Here's a way to think about godly things from the start of the day.

Transcript

[Steve Myers] When you got up this morning, what did you put on? Well, we got dressed probably. Maybe we got ready for work, maybe got ready for the day. Got to take on the world. So we get ready to do that. And in fact spiritually there's a connection that we should think of every single morning we get out of bed. And one of those connections is found over in Colossians 3:12 where it tells us to put on some things. If we're God's people, Paul reminds us we've got to get dressed and ready for the day - for every single day. Here's what he says, "As the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering."  He goes on, "Bearing with one another, forgiving one another." And then verse 14, "But above all," he says, "Put on love" (Colossians 3:12-14). And so imagine that for a moment. Alright, you get up, you get out of bed, you've got to get dressed. You've got to get dressed. You can't face the world naked. You can't face spirituality naked either.

So Paul uses this phrase to put on. Get your clothes on. Put on your shirt. Put on your shoes. And what I challenge you to do is every single day when you do that, as you're putting on your socks, think about kindness. As you're pulling on your shirt, put on humility. Because you know that word to put on literally means to clothe yourself. So when you're clothing yourself tomorrow morning and you're pulling on those clothes, getting those pants on, getting on your jacket, think about these wonderful, spiritual characteristics that we need to put on as God's people every single day. Put them on.

That's BT Daily. We'll see you next time.
