What is your approach to sin?

Transcript

[Steve Myers] I'm putting my significant artistic abilities to the challenge today. What is this? You guessed it, it is a tank. And it's for the purpose of a little illustration. Many years ago, I saw an old World War II magazine that had a picture of a tank. And it looked much more like a real tank than this, it was actual a picture of a tank. And on the other side of the page was a soldier. Okay, so here's my representation of what that little soldier was like. And so here's this gigantic tank, about to crush this little soldier in this old World War II magazine. But then when you flip the page was kind of interesting, because on the next page, there was this gigantic soldier. And then suddenly, this tank looks like a miniature. And you know what the difference was? The difference was a bazooka.

Well you don't hear that word very much anymore, a bazooka, the early rocket launchers. And the difference between this soldier and that teeny little one on the other page was that this soldier had a bazooka and was a tank killer, and was a defense against that tank. Now the interesting thing is when you begin to think of God's Spirit, and the abilities that God's Spirit enables us to accomplish is like the difference between this little soldier against this huge tank of sin that is rolling against us. We have no hope in overcoming that tank that is full of sin that's gonna overcome us. But if we've got the bazooka of the Spirit of God, we can kill that tank.

God's Spirit gives us the ability to overcome sin. God has given us a tremendous power. And in the book of Ephesians, it's a great reminder of that very fact. Ephesians 4:22, it tells us this, "Be renewed in the spirit of your mind." You wanna overcome that rolling sin that comes after us unrelentingly. It says, "Put on the new man that was created, according to God, in true righteousness and holiness." We're gonna overcome the evil that comes against us. It says, "Put away lying, speak the truth. We're members of one another. Don't be angry, don't sin."

Well, how are you gonna do that? The only way, the only means is to submit ourselves to God's Spirit.

So remember, we're in a battle. We're in a battle every single day and that tank is out there. Every day make sure and pick up that bazooka that God has given us, that bazooka of the Spirit of God so that we can take on the enemy and we with the help of God and His Spirit can surely overcome.

That's BT Daily. See you next time.
