A new bill protecting babies passed the U.S. Senate but did not receive enough votes to advance. How does God view unborn babies?

Transcript

[Darris McNeely] Abortion is in the news again as a bill recently passed the United States Senate, a bill that was to protect a child that was born. The bill is actually called the "Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Act". The bill actually passed the Senate by a vote of 53 to 44, but it did not receive a 60-vote margin for it to advance to an actual enactment by the Congress and so it kind of ended. It fell mostly along partisan lines, but in looking at this bill and thinking about it, it's rather appalling as to what it says and what happened. Look at the title of the bill again, "Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Act". Children that are born full term, they're alive, they survive abortion. They made it through nine months in their mother's womb, and the bill was to protect that child now that has left the mother's womb and is a viable life laying there on his mother's tummy or on the table in the hospital.

And now, we have gone to the point where we need to have a law to protect that child. Everything's been turned upside down on this whole abortion issue and what is taking place state by state across the United States right now with other laws and movements that are moving to enact legislation to guarantee the right to take the life of a baby after it has been born. We will see others on this issue, but at least someone in the United States Senate put a bill forward, but the terminology and the debate didn't get the job done.

I was reading in the book of Exodus about this issue and there was a scripture that also, I think we should at least note regarding the life of a child in the womb of its mother. In Exodus 21:22-25, God gave to his people Israel a code that said that if a woman was injured by someone and she was with child that if the child was okay, the birth continued on, there was still recompense that was due to the family.
But if a serious injury took place that would result in the death of the child, perhaps a miscarriage, then he said in verse 25, God says, "Take life for life." "Life for life." What that is saying is that God's law says that that unborn child is life and that if it is terminated in the womb, then there has to be another life taken for that. It is a very severe legislation under the code that God gave to Israel. But think about that, here we have another definition about what is developing in the womb of a mother and the life of a child.

We're dealing with some very brutal issues on this matter of abortion right now in the United States. It is a time to sigh and cry, it is a time to pray, "Thy kingdom come." This is not going to get solved, it seems, by human government and we're going to have to look to the intervention of Jesus Christ and His kingdom to save this life and to prevent this ongoing holocaust that is there. We do need to pray, "Thy kingdom come," as we watch what is taking place.
