Getting our family together for my parents anniversary reminded me of God's family plan.

Transcript

[Steve Myers] You've heard the old saying, "What's in a name?" I was reminded of that this weekend. We got together with my family and celebrated my parent's 65th wedding anniversary. It was an amazing occasion. We had all of the children there as well as my mom and dad. Most of the grandkids were there. In fact, when you added it all up, we had about five generations of family that were there. So I was reminded about our family name, the Myers' family name. It was a wonderful celebration. One of the things that was interesting about it is the fact that we got together on a fun occasion. One of my cousins brought that to mind when he told me, "It's good to get together at a time different than a funeral." And that was such a reminder for us because oftentimes it's only at those more difficult times that we have a tendency to get together. So this was a fun occasion where we just celebrated the fact that we were family, and we were together, and we talked, and we laughed, and we enjoyed each other's company and maybe even teared up once in a while remembering all of the good times that we've had and looking forward to the good things that are yet to come. Now of course there are amazing things yet to come that the Bible talks about, and it talks about it in relationship to family.

It's a section of scripture that's over in the book of Ephesians. And in Ephesians 3:14 it says something interesting. It says, "For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ." And of course the father is the head of the family. And here's what Paul says about it. He says, "The Father," it says, "From whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named." Now when you study this section of scripture it reminds you who is the head of the family. The head of the spiritual family is God the Father. And God is about family. In fact, His whole plan is about creating a spiritual family. So I thought about that this weekend. When you have five generations of people together, all family, it is a remarkable occasion, but it's nothing compared to what God the Father is doing as He is creating a spiritual family. Now that's something we can all look forward to, and every one of us can celebrate that fact.

That's Beyond Today. We'll see you next time.
