Most mothers are very, very devoted to mothering, and so truly deserve to be honored. Their day-after-day tender loving care and influence profoundly molds their children and largely determines the future of the world. That truth is summed up in the famous poem, "The Hand that Rocks the Cradle" ("is the hand that rules the world").

It's fascinating when reading in the Old Testament about the kings of Israel and Judah to notice how often the Bible says, "and his mother's name was…" God, the One who inspired the Bible, is giving credit (and blame) largely to the mother as to whether the king turned out to be righteous or evil. Often an evil king had a son who turned out to be good and often a righteous king had a son who turned out to be wicked. Obviously, the kings didn't spend much time with their children so the primary influence on the children was the mother.

Mothers are generally very devoted to their children for two main reasons: they have a strong sense of commitment and responsibility, plus that protective "mother love" is an instinct that God gave them. Their love is self-sacrificing but the rewards and joys of motherhood make all the sacrifices well worth it!

However the Bible foretells a major problem "in the last days": many people are "without natural affection" (2 Timothy 3:1, 3, King James Version).

How can a mother decide to abort (kill) a child she is carrying inside her body? And yet many millions of babies are aborted every year. Where have all the mothers gone?

When collectively considering all the abortions worldwide, there are many factors that influence the decisions of those mothers. Pressure from the father or others. The relative ease of getting an abortion. Lack of understanding of and belief in the Bible. Lack of other strong moral principles as societies are becoming more and more amoral. The multi-generational problem of poor upbringing of those mothers. Liberal politics that promote the acceptability of abortion. Selfish and lustful desires to engage in immoral sex without having to take on the responsibility of a child.

But this blog is not focusing on those reasons. This is about the long-range results of those abortions.

Think of all the billions of wonderful people this world is missing because their lives were cut short.

Think of all the women (and men) who eventually suffer with great regret and remorse after coming to understand the reality of what they have done.

Think of all the women who eventually want to be mothers (want to have children) who cannot because of the damage to their bodies from an abortion.

If God ever sheds tears, He probably is most likely to shed tears over the world's abortions, infanticides, and abuse and neglect of children.

For the mothers and fathers who abort children, we can pray, "Father, please forgive them for they know not what they do." And we can pray for the healing of their hearts and minds. Some know they need healing and others will eventually know they need healing.

"Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven" (Matthew 6:10, KJV). When Jesus Christ has returned and is ruling the world, there will be no more abortions. The world will truly be a child-friendly place.

Children will be considered a huge blessing just as God intended." Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD, and the fruit of the womb is his reward" (Psalms 127:3). Once again, large families will be the norm.

Once again, being a mother will be considered the most wonderful experience a woman can have.
