Oh How We Desperately Need God: Let Him Know That!

Recently a woman sang a song of worship at church that took my breath away—as the tears rolled down my face, she sang the song “Lord I Need You.”

Here are the lyrics to the song:

Lord, I come, I confess
Bowing here I find my rest
Without You I fall apart
You're the One that guides my heart

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

Where sin runs deep Your grace is more
Where grace is found is where You are
Where You are, Lord, I am free
Holiness is Christ in me

Lord, I need You, oh, I need You
Every hour I need You
My one defense, my righteousness
Oh God, how I need You

So teach my song to rise to You
When temptation comes my way
When I cannot stand I'll fall on You
Jesus…

While listening to her sing, it reminded of the many times I became so desperate that I called out to God telling Him how much I needed Him. One time really stands out from the others.

I have written about it before but this song once again reminded me of God’s deliverance in my own life. To this day, I still remember kneeling down at my window at the age of 17 crying out to God for help, telling Him that I needed Him, that I could not do it without Him.

That desperate prayer was because of being awakened in the middle of the night by screams of terror! This is when I ran to my bedroom window, knelt down and began praying in earnest. I was pleading with God to intervene, to stop the terror, the terror that was going on right across the hall. I told God I needed Him!

My father was a very violent man and at times I thought my mother or I would die at his hands. God did intervene in my life, and answered my desperate plea that I made in front of the window! You can read more of my story and how he delivered me here.

How many of us need God every hour of the day, as referred to in the song? Life is so tough with many obstacles and setbacks. Health issues, financial issues, family issues, job issues and on and on.

Sometimes we can become so downhearted that we think it will never get better, that there is no way out. That is how I felt many years ago when I kneeled down in front of that window! I needed help then when I was a teen and I still need God today. I cannot survive without Him.

What trials are you going through? Is there anything too great or too small, that God will not hear you crying out to Him, letting Him know you need Him?

We have to ask God for help! God wants us to lean on Him as our Father. He wants to help us. A famous musician once said, “Refusing to ask for help when you need it is refusing someone the chance to be helpful” (Ric Ocasek).

Give God that opportunity to help you. He says to His people: "Yet the LORD longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the LORD is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him! People of Zion, who live in Jerusalem, you will weep no more. How gracious he will be when you cry for help! As soon as he hears, he will answer you" (Isaiah 30:18-19, New International Version). Jesus promises, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you” (Matthew 7:7).

What are you going through that God cannot hear? Nothing! I am proof that He is the most amazing Father anyone could have! I am proof that He answers prayers! I am proof that He is not a respecter of persons, and even hears a teen’s cries for help! I am proof He can deliver you from anything! I need Him every day, every hour of the day—and so do you. Tell Him every day that you need Him! Why?

Because he pities His children: “As a father pities his children, so the LORD pities those who fear Him. For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust" (Psalms 103:13-14). That is why we need Him. Because we are weak and He is strong.

Yes, we all need Him! Let Him know that!

Hi Doug, To your question; Do any Politicians follow the above? I cannot make a judgement on that except looking at the fruit of their actions in public. I am so grateful that I can leave that judgement to God as he sees in all the hearts of men and He also weighs in what their background has been. God is so merciful in His judgement of all of us. So I am grateful that we have such a merciful God who died for all, even Politicians. With that said, God told us to pray for our leaders.
    Romans 13:1
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and
1 Timothy 2:1 those that exist have been instituted by God. and First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
    They all need our prayers.
So as to your question I do not know what is in their hearts. We should notice their actions and pray for them. Only when God is the ruler on earth will it be perfect. In the meantime God is working with very imperfect humans. Thanks again for you comments as it is a reminder of how I should live., as many times I fall short as well.

    1 Timothy 3:1-5
The saying is trustworthy: If anyone aspires to the office of overseer, he desires a noble task. Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not a drunkard, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. He must manage his own household well, with all dignity keeping his children submissive, for if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how will he care for God's church?
    Galatians 5:19-26
Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. ...
