Jesus Christ gave up his mantle as God and became a human being. He lived a perfect life for 33 years, then was killed (in a very horrible and monstrous way—by crucifixion). Why? So that every human being who has ever lived could be given the chance to live forever. There's a bit more to understand, of course, but that's it in a nutshell. You can read more with our study guide Jesus Christ: The Real Story.

Son of God is a movie about the life, ministry and death of Jesus Christ. It was edited down to feature length from the 10-hour History Channel mini-series The Bible from last year. It premieres in theaters today and has so far received mostly poor reviews from the critics.

If you plan to see it, why not brush up on His teachings and life ahead of time by reading some of the book of John or any of the other three written accounts of Jesus' life? He said some profound stuff that hasn't just changed the world, but also can change your life.

Here are a few of my favorite things Jesus said, which are just so profound and amazing. What are some of your favorite sayings by Jesus or quotes about Him from other parts of the Bible? Share them in the comments below.

For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life--that I should raise them at the last day.

(John 6:40, New Living Translation)

Don’t be so surprised! Indeed, the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God’s Son…

(John 5:28)

I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love.

(John 15:9)

But among you, those who are the greatest should take the lowest rank, and the leader should be like a servant.

(Luke 22:26)

But if you are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. Pray for the happiness of those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you.
(Luke 6:27-28)
Do for others what you would like them to do for you. This is a summary of all that is taught in the law and the prophets.
(Matthew 7:12)
Look! Here I stand at the door and knock. If you hear me calling and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal as friends.
(Revelation 3:20)
See, I am coming soon, and my reward is with me, to repay all according to their deeds.
(Revelation 22:12).

John 13-17 Very soon Passover Season will be here, beginning with the memorial of taking the bread and wine, symbols of the suffering and sacrifice of Jesus Christ as the Lamb of God. Also in that night another symbol of Christ’s humble service was instituted as He washed His disciples feet and instructed them to show their willingness to follow His example of service and love to each other by washing one another’s feet. He talked to His chosen ones that night of things very important to Him, things important for His disciples to hear. He spoke of believing, of love, of being at one, of keeping His commandments, of glorifying the Father by bearing much fruit, and how without Him we can do nothing of lasting value. Christ prayed to the Father for his disciples and not just for those who were with Him that night, but for us, for you and me, for all who would believe in Him because of their words. He prayed we would be one just as He and the Father are one, and that we would be made perfect, completed, by them dwelling in us. As Passover draws near I read again His words, recorded for us, of that night and pray for deeper understanding, for the belief, the love, and the oneness that is in Them. I pray we will discern the Lord’s body, and properly worship Him, for growth in the fruits of Their Spirit so our Father and faithful Savior Jesus Christ can be glorified in us. I am hoping and praying for all of God's children, a deeply meaningful and rejoicing Passover Season.

Hello Mitchell, Thanks for this article you wrote and I do agree that Jesus is the Son of God sent to us from the Father. And I believe that He died so we may have Eternal Life with Him and the Father. When there comes a movie concerning the life of my Savior then I reject this film and will not see it. Any representation of Holy God is unacceptable in my view. No matter how accurate the story the very idea of making an image of Christ and putting this image on film for us to see is wrong. Is it not better for us to know Him like He is now in radiance and glory sitting at the right hand of the Father? On the other hand I do enjoy some Bible films. There is a series that has films like David, Jacob, Genesis, Moses, Paul, and Ester to name a few of these films produced by Lube for Lux Vide. These films are fantastic and hold pretty much to the truth about characters of the Bible. These films are highly recommended by me and worth your time to watch them. They also put out a film called Jesus but I reject this one and will not see it. It is one thing to watch Bible stories about the people of God but quite another to represent Christ in the film. Anyway I have said what I wished to say about these things. Hopefully you understand my viewpoint with regards to Our Savior. May we pray that His Kingdom be established on our earth soon. Amen

James 4:7-8 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. James 5:19-20 19 Brethren, if anyone among you wanders from the truth, and someone turns him back, 20 let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save a soul from death and cover a multitude of sins.
