The royal house of England has a motto: “Do your duty.” They know that when a person has a strong sense of duty, he or she will always act in a uniform manner. Queen Elizabeth II exemplifies this sense of duty. She has been one of the most steadfast and reliable monarchs England has known.

Knowing what God expects of us can give us a true sense of duty. A sense of duty builds inner strength in us. It acts as a conscience to all of our actions. A right sense of duty will not allow fear or uncertainty to overcome us. We measure what is expected of us and what we will do by this inner constant. It helps us become a person of worth. A person who lets his or her “yes” be “yes” and “no” be “no” is one deserving of respect (James 5:12).
