We do live in a land where people who get to know the right people and who work hard enough can usually advance. All too often in our lands elections of officials are held. All attain to some high office or place only to find out that they have been bound with chains that are very difficult to break. There are three sorts of chains that make them slaves: They are servants of the state or enterprise, they are servants of fame and power, and they are also servants of business.

In order to advance, a person needs to do things in a way that pleases their superiors. The enterprises we engage in are regulated and controlled by the state, and we struggle to remain within the scope that will give us some benefits. Success in business is defined by greater and greater expanse, and we are slaves to the determination within us to "be somebody." Peter knew that we are slaves to corruption and to whoever has control over us (2 Peter 2:19). It is not a sin to be successful, and God has blessed people to give success. It is important that we know who and what we serve and make certain God is involved.
