We may be slaves to a job, to an addiction, to bad habits, to greed, selfishness—and the list goes on. We are even slaves to death when we refuse to take advice about our health. It is known that the greatest hope for curing cancer is early detection, but our resistance to seeing a specialist all too often delays action that might be taken. We do not want to be told we may die. Within almost all of us a thought pattern exists that, for the most part, we just do not want to hear truth—even truth that will set us free from that which can harm us.

Jesus came bringing the greatest message of hope that humans could know. He preached the truth, and He was the truth. He said the truth will make you free (John 8:32-36). That truth was offered to many, but only a few chose to accept it. We simply do not readily want to know the truth—we prefer not to hear it. Don't confuse me with the facts, we say. And we suffer for that mindset. The wise have learned to listen and benefit. Truth is something to cherish. Listen for it.
