Drawing the Line
Every one of us knows that in all things, we must draw the line somewhere. In morality, in handling money or in matters of conduct, there is a line that needs to be drawn. Since all humans differ in opinions, our lines tend not to be identical.
The Bible, however, gives us guidance on how to live. There are lines drawn by God, and they are the perfect lines. His guides are broad enough for our differences, but confined enough to keep us all at peace and in harmony with Him. Humans, on the other hand, draw lines that reflect their own imperfections.
Jesus told the leaders of His day that their lines were extremely rigid in some areas, but far too lax in others (Matthew 23:23-24). Common sense, decency, circumstances and personalities all play a part in the lines we humans draw—but only when our lines are pleasing to God do they truly become pleasing to us.
