That means words which come out of our mouths may come back to haunt us because they reveal what we think and what is in our minds. Some wisdom in the use of words is given in the Bible. We are told to pay attention to the words of our mouths (Proverbs 7:24). We may have to retract them some day or explain them.

Paul explained that our words ought to be with grace and seasoned with salt (Colossians 4:6). Those are words that come from the inner thought which considers others. They are words that are sweet to eat. There is no doubt that we are often misquoted and misunderstood, but when gentle and thoughtful words are used, there is little to criticize. There is no need for retraction. Keep your words sweet, you may have to eat them one day.
