There are nearly 7 billion humans living on earth. Most of them take all they can from the earth. We force the ground to yield more crops. We will do almost anything to cause animals to grow larger more quickly. We economize by forcing animals to live in crowded and dirty conditions. We save money by not reclaiming land we have abused. We blind ourselves into thinking that the earth can regenerate itself or that someone else will clean up any mess we have made.

God placed humans on an earth that needed to be tended and kept (Genesis 2:15). After Adam sinned, God added that the land would be hard to work with, and thorns and thistles would grow (Genesis 3:17-18). We have learned that if we do not constantly tend a garden, it will soon be overrun with weeds.

God created a wonderfully green earth. We have the capacity to take care of it, but that requires developing good character. The choice is ours. Will we keep the earth clean and green?
