Humans have invented a marvelous system to control the flow of traffic. Most humans are happy when everyone else drives within the system. But there are times when the green lights do not seem to suit our particular schedule and needs. Why is it that when you are in a rush, the green light will turn red just as you think you are able to cross the intersection? On the other hand, the red light seems to last forever, and just as you come to a full stop, it finally turns green. One would think there is a prankster pulling a switch.

Jesus said that by our patience, we possess our souls (Luke 21:19), and Paul wrote that we have need of patience (Hebrews 10:36). Some of the important parts of our character should be patience, endurance and perseverance. That is a frame of mind that carries on through all we do in life. Being frustrated when the lights change in a wrong direction and at the wrong time is just another test of our patience. How are we doing? The degree of our true patience is often reflected in how we drive our cars. That could tell us we have work to do.
