Amos asked: "Can two walk together, except they are agreed?" (Amos 3:3). Obviously, we can't walk together with God or another person unless we are headed in the same direction spiritually. But some think this means that you can't walk together unless you agree on everything. We are all as different as our fingerprints, and we disagree on many things. What we need to agree about is that we are determined to walk together. That means we respect the different opinions of one another and do not insist that our fellow walker agree totally with us in everything.

How sweet it is to agree to walk together in spite of our differences. Psalm 133 reminds us how good it is for people to dwell together in unity. We may differ in our method of doing things, plans for the future and in many other things—but as long as we are wise in how we handle our opinions and recognize our parameters, we can walk together in peace. We may disagree with one another on many things, but the art of disagreeing amicably allows us to walk together. Make up your mind to walk in peace.
